FADA Research and Creative Activities Clusters

FADA Research and Creative Activities Clusters (ReCrACs) articulate shared terrains of inquiry across the faculty and are designed to function as living networks and spaces of inquiry rather than fixed research units. They are meant to foster dialogue, co-creation, co-teaching, and experimental collaboration.

  • Investigation of technical, material, and structural dimensions of building in art and design fields. Exploration of building technologies, construction management, environmental control, and material performance.

  • Making and creation as vital practices of existence, exploration, experiment and expression. Production of works across media, performance, installation, and narrative.

  • Examination of how creative knowledge is taught, learned, and practiced across disciplines. Experimentation with studio culture, interdisciplinary learning, and innovative pedagogical tools.

  • Engaging philosophical, sensory, and theoretical approaches to creative and spatial practices. Reflections on experience, embodiment, and meaning-making.

  • Exploration of the complex cultural, material, and historical formations that shape art, design, and architecture. Studies of conservation, historiography, archives, and cultural narratives.

  • Exploration of how mediated practices shape public discourse, civic participation, and cultural perception. Analysis of communication ethics, digital publics, and the role of media in sociopolitical life.

  • Examination of spatial experience and the built environment in relation to social and political systems. Critical study of spaces through sociological approaches, in relation to issues such as spatial justice, policy-making, gender, and housing.

  • Investigation of the ethical and environmental dimensions of sustainable design. Exploration of planetary and human wellbeing through research, design and art practices.

  • Exploration of how digital tools, algorithmic thinking, and emerging technologies shape creative practice and future imaginaries. Investigation of interactive environments, immersive media, and the evolving relationships between the human and the machine.
