Mono Printing on Gelli Plate
Event Type: Workshop
Time & Place: 09.30-12.20, FC-217
Facilitator/Speaker: Semih Zeki – Birsu Çeltek
Description: Monotype is distinguished within the field of printmaking by its defining characteristic as a single-edition process (1/1). Each print produced through this technique is unique and cannot be replicated, positioning monotype as one of the printmaking methods most closely aligned with painterly expression. Its immediacy and capacity for spontaneous intervention enable artists to engage with a process that bridges the disciplines of painting and printmaking.
During the workshop, participants will work on gelli plates and transfer their compositions onto A3-sized paper using a printing press. As the technique does not involve a permanent matrix, compositions can be continually reconfigured on smooth surfaces such as glass, metal, or acrylic sheets.
Participants are kindly requested to bring pre-prepared templates (made from materials such as cardboard, paper, or fabric) that correspond to their intended compositions.
Recognized for its experimental, direct, and expressive qualities, the monotype technique holds an important place in art education, offering an opportunity to explore the intersection of graphic and painterly practices.
Notes: Participation is limited to 10 people. Please contact Fine Arts administrative assistant (cansu.demir@bilkent.edu.tr). GE250/251 15 points. The event will be held in English.

Participants are invited to reconsider drawing as an expressive and experiential practice: one that can register movement, temporality, atmosphere, and embodied perception. Through a series of exercises and the variety of media and techniques, the students will engage with methods of distortion, layering, erasure, and superimposition to challenge fixed representational systems and to develop alternative visual languages capable of articulating and illustrating spatial experience.

Exhibitions 6-10

ANKARA POSTCARDS
FADA Fest 2026: One City, A Thousand Memories
Event Type: Exhibition
Participants: FA 213: Introduction to Printmaking Students & Faculty Members of Art, Design, and Architecture
Time & Place: 6-10 April, FADA Exhibition Hall
Description: To some, Ankara is a gray capital, to others, it is the most vibrant streets of their childhood. Organized as part of FADA Fest 2026, this exhibition gathers these personal perspectives in the form of “postcards.”
Exhibition Theme: “My Ankara”
The exhibition serves as a reminder that Ankara is not a single, monolithic image, but a city that resonates differently in everyone’s mind. This selection, composed of postcard-sized prints, shifts the focus from monumental landmarks to the nuances of neighborhood life—from the entrance of an Ankara apartment or a manhole cover to the curve of a familiar slope. The intimacy inherent in the small scale invites the viewer to lean in, look closer, and reconnect with their own version of Ankara.
The semester-long technical explorations of the students in FA 213: Introduction to Printmaking have merged with the surprise and collective contributions of the Faculty of Fine Arts members. Each work in this exhibition is envisioned as a visual letter, ready to be mailed. The texture of the city has been translated onto paper solely through the discipline and aesthetics of printmaking techniques.
All works in the exhibition were produced exclusively using printmaking techniques. The textural richness offered by methods such as silkscreen, linocut, and monotype expands the layered structure of Ankara, making it feel monumental even on small surfaces.
